These websites collect your personal information and then sell it to numerous insurance agents, or to other companies that will offer you various products and services. You probably didn’t know that, because they bury that detail in their fine print.

When seeking a health insurance quote, there is no reason to subject yourself to dealing with eight agents. All agents have the same rates. You will not get a better rate by choosing one agent or another. You simply need one experienced agent who knows what he/she is talking about.
When you search for an online quote, check out each website carefully. Do they have a phone number and contact information? Is it a licensed agent or agency? Be sure to read the fine print. Check out their privacy policy.
If you decide you do want to compare rates from more than one agent, you are better off finding each agent yourself. That way you can check out their website, credentials, etc, before deciding to work with them. If you go to a website that sells your information, you have no idea who will be contacting you.
Tip: To obtain an individual health insurance quote, you should NOT need to submit any of the following information:
- Your driver’s license number
- Social security number
- Occupation
- Full address
- Vehicle information
- Bank account information
- Whether you rent or own your home
That information is not needed in order to give you a health insurance quote. Most likely, any company that asks for this information is going to try to sell you other products and services. Or even worse, they will sell your information to other companies.
