Four Phoenix Medical Plans That Don’t Suck

If you live in the Phoenix area (Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, etc), you have many options when it comes to individual or family health insurance coverage. Here are four plans that we recommend. 1. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona BlueOptimum PPO Plan

If you are looking for a PPO plan in Arizona, Blue Optimum is hard to beat. You pay $25 for primary doctor visits and $50 to see a specialist. Blue Cross Arizona Deductibles on this plan range from $250 up to $5,000, and your maximum out of pocket cost (the amount you pay after you meet your deductible) is $2500 per year. This plan uses Blue Cross’s nationwide network, so you can travel anywhere in the country and find lots of in-network providers. You pay $15 maximum for generic prescriptions and $35 for most brand name drugs, after meeting a separate $250 prescription deductible for brand name drugs.

2. Cigna HMO Plan

Cigna Healthcare of Arizona offers an excellent HMO plan that is highly recommended if you need maternity coverage. Cigna Delivery is covered after 21 months on the plan, which means you may become pregnant after 12 months. Prenatal and postpartum visits are covered at 100%. The plan has a $1,000 deductible. After you meet the deductible, there is a maximum annual out of pocket cost of $3,000. For hospitalization (including delivery), you pay 20%. For office visits, you have a $25 co-pay for primary doctor visits and a $50 co-pay to see a specialist. Generic drugs cost $15, brand name drugs range from $40-$60. Emergency room visits cost $150.

3. Golden Rule / UnitedHealthcare HSA 100 Plan

As healthcare costs in America continue to skyrocket, HSA’s (health savings accounts) have become a very popular option for both individuals and families. Golden Rule / United Healthcare They give you a lower monthly premium and the opportunity to save money, tax-free, to spend on your medical care. If you’re looking for an HSA, Golden Rule has an excellent option called UnitedHealthOne.  Almost all services are subject to your deductible. The exception is preventive care. For preventive care, you pay a $35 co-pay for office visits, and you pay nothing for x-rays and lab tests. Once you meet your annual deductible, they pay 100% of medical expenses. Deductibles range from $1250 to $7000. 

4. Assurant Short Term Medical Plan

If you only need health insurance on a temporary basis, Assurant offers excellent coverage at an affordable price. Assurant This plan is very good if you are between permanent health insurance plans, such as waiting for group employer coverage to kick in. Your coverage can start as soon as tomorrow. Deductibles range from $250-$3500, with a maximum out of pocket of $2,000 or $4,000, depending which plan you choose.
